Embracing the 70s: The Journey Behind My High-Waisted Wide-Legged Vintage-Inspired Pants

Fashion is a powerful form of self-expression, a canvas where we can paint a reflection of who we are and how we feel. As a designer, I often find myself drawn to the styles of the past, capturing their essence and reinterpreting them with a modern, sexy twist. Today, I want to share the story behind the October Capsule: high-waisted wide-legged vintage-inspired pants.
Every year in Miami, Art Basel brings two weeks of non-stop parties, art, and fashion. Long days turn into even longer nights, as I was curating my wardrobe for this whirlwind event, I found myself in a bit of a fashion dilemma. I needed the perfect pant—something that looked like a skirt, offered the comfort and practicality of pants, and could easily transition from day to night. I wanted a piece I could style in a classic yet sexy way, and pair with either sneakers or comfortable wedges to keep me going through those long hours of art and glam.

After scouring my wardrobe and coming up empty, I decided to take a dive into my mother's treasure trove of vintage pieces from the 70s onwards. It was there I stumbled upon a pair of wide-leg pants that instantly sparked inspiration. These pants had the boldness and flow I was craving, but I knew they needed a modern twist.

So, I reimagined the silhouette and brought these pants into the present day, creating what would eventually become *The Selmas*—a staple in our Jeva line. With their striking wide leg and perfect balance of comfort and style, The Selmas were born. They've since become the OG of the collection, embodying that effortlessly chic vibe that carries you from day to night in true Miami style.
